Microneedling

I always say that if there was one treatment that I could do the rest of my life it would be Microneedling. Now you’re probably thinking that I say that about all the treatments we offer, but I truly cannot stress it enough how amazing this treatment really is.

The Why

For those that haven’t met me, my name is Melissa and I have been a Medical Aesthetician for 10 years. I am the Creative Director here at EllEve and love this industry immensely. We all have a reason for becoming an Aesthetician and mine was that you could make a living extracting. Yes, I was THAT girl growing up watching Dr. Pimple Popper and wanting that life. Well, fast forward a decade and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.

When I lived in Colorado I was able to learn more intensive procedures and one of them was Microneedling. I had an opportunity to be trained for free; I had no idea what this treatment was, but figured it was a good tool to add to my kit. I went into the training resistant, but I walked out of that training stoked and ready to take on the world. It quickly became my favorite to give to patients and to receive as a patient myself.

The Tea

Microneedling has become a staple treatment in this industry and if you haven’t heard about it by now, then I am completely thrilled to help educate you on the benefits of incorporating this treatment into your regimen!

At EllEve Med Spa, we use the SkinPen. It is safe, powerful, and out of all of the pens that I have worked with, this is definitely my favorite. This device utilizes tiny needles that create millions, yes MILLIONS, of microchannels into the skin. What this process is doing is creating a “controlled wound” and tricking the body into healing the treated area.

This process is very similar to when you get a cut. Your body will send its A-team consisting of platelets, growth factors, and stem cells. They’ll then work together to heal the cut as quickly as possible to prevent an infection. This is why we get left with a scar. Our bodies don’t care what it looks like – it only cares about preventing that wound from getting worse. So cool right? But now you have a scar that you didn’t have before, which is the not so cool part.

A question I get asked a lot is wouldn’t it make the scar worse? Surprisingly no, it doesn’t. The reason is when we are creating these teeny tiny microscopic channels into the skin, we have the control to break up the scar tissue and while this process is going we are infusing deliciously healing products into the skin.

The Juice

There are many ways we can go about in doing Microneedling. With our Standard Microneedling we infuse with SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel. This product has a perfect consistency that helps the SkinPen glide smoothly, and the Hyaluronic Acid aids in reducing scarring and inflammation, helps heal, and hydrates/plump the skin. It’s a perfect combo really.

Another popular way you can do Microneedling is with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) or as I like to call it – liquid gold. Universally we know it as the Vampire Facial. Utilizing your own blood, we are able to seperate the red and white blood cells and extract the highest amount of healthy platelets, growth factors, and even some stem cells! This is wildly similar to what our bodies naturally do when healing, so can you imagine doing this treatment to enhance the results? It’s fantastic and this treatment isn’t going anywhere as it is one of the most sought out treatments in this industry and for our office.

The Healing

We will always be upfront on the expected healing process in order to set you up for the greatest success for the best results:

Day 1: red/pink, mild swelling, hot like a sunburn, dry, and the occasional trapped blood underneath the skin (petechiae). It sounds intense, but don’t worry, I’ve had that happen to me plenty of times, it’s normal, and it goes away!

Day 2: slightly pink, most certainly dry, and may have the petechiae. You may wear makeup at this point

Day 3-6: dry and may experience slight flaking of the skin. I recommend purchasing a strictly hydrating masque like Hydrating B5 Masque, Phyto Corrective Masque, or the Hydra Balm. This is my little secret weapon that dramatically speeds up the healing.

ByDay 7 you are radiant, glowy, and you will want to show the world your refreshed results.

Please keep in mind that this is the expected downtime for Skin Rejuvenation. If you are wanting to address a scar, the petechiae will show for 1-2 weeks, and swelling will linger a bit longer. For my surgical scar, I have lingering redness for around 1 month, but that is only because I go very aggressive and have the expertise to gauge what I can personally handle. Everyone is different and we will always create a treatment plan that works best for you.
